Dental Implants Recovery Time

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Your recovery from dental implant surgery will depend on the type of dental implant you choose, and your body’s natural ability to heal. For standard dental implants, this process can take up to one year. This is because the implants need to integrate into your jawbone before they can act as a sufficient replacement for your new false tooth. Dental implants offer a permanent solution for missing teeth only when your body accepts them as a new tooth root. This takes some time, but offers the most reliable and permanent results.

Mini Implants

New advancements in dental implant technology have brought about mini implants. Mini implants can be placed without surgically cutting gum tissue, which reduces healing time and allows for much faster results. With mini implants, it is possible to walk into our office with ill-fitting dentures, and walk out with a secure, seamless smile.

No one procedure is ideal for every patient. During your initial consultation with Dr. Cload, your options along with your expected recovery time will be discussed with you in full.

If you live in or around Calgary, Alberta and would like more information about dental implants, please contact Southcentre Dental Clinic to schedule an initial consultation today.

Should I Get Mini Dental Implants or Traditional Dental Implants?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

When deciding on a permanent solution for your missing or severely damaged teeth, you should consult with a dentist, evaluate the facts and decide which option best meets your needs and goals.

With recent dental implant technological advancements, there are multiple choices to replace your teeth. Two of the most durable and popular options are:

Traditional dental implants consist of a small titanium screw that is placed into your jaw that serves as a replacement root. Eventually, the implant fuses with the jawbone and creates a permanent fixture for your artificial tooth.

For the procedure to work, there must be enough bone in the jaw, and the bone has to be strong enough to hold and support the implant. Traditional implants are much stronger and more durable than crowns and bridges that are cemented into place, or dentures that are removable. These implants are comfortable and allow you to continue living the way you always have been, like eating your favorite foods.

Mini dental implants are essentially a smaller version of the traditional implants. They are smaller in diameter than regular implants and are more ideal for individuals with a thin bone structure or smaller teeth.

Mini dental implants are so narrow that they usually are embedded into your bone underneath the gum tissue without extensive surgery. This procedure is much less invasive than traditional implants, and mini dental implants are also typically a less expensive option than traditional implants.

If you would like more information on the differences between traditional dental implants and mini dental implants, please contact Calgary, Alberta, dentist Dr. Steven Cload at Southcentre Dental Clinic to schedule a consultation.

How Soon Can I Get a Dental Implant?

Monday, May 9th, 2011

If you are missing one or more teeth, you may be eager to fill that gap with a dental implant. A dental implant is a great way to create a lasting solution to complete your smile – they maintain a 95% success rate if cared for properly.

If you work with Calgary implant dentist Dr. Steven Cload, you can expect a dedicated and caring staff to help you through the dental implant process. The first meeting you will have with Dr. Cload will help determine which type of dental implant is the right choice for you and whether your gums and jaw could support the implant.

The next time you come in, you will undergo a quick surgical procedure to implant the anchor into your jawbone. This procedure usually is carried out in 15 minutes or less and involves conscious sedation. You will be awake for the procedure, but you most likely won’t remember it afterwards.

Once the dental implant is inserted into your jaw, it will take several months for your jaw to heal. During this time, your jawbone will fuse with the implant, making it highly stable. After your jaw has completely healed, Dr. Cload will connect a titanium post, called an abutment, to the implant and attach a dental crown to the abutment. Your new prosthetic tooth will look and function just like your natural teeth, enabling you to eat whatever you like with a clear conscience.

Please contact our experienced Calgary implant dentist today to schedule your initial consultation at Southcentre Dental Clinic.

Mini Implants

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Mini Implants are a fairly new introduction to the Implant field. Basically the name says it all. They are narrower than traditional implants and so can be used in area where available bone quantity is a issue. They can also be loaded immediately in certain situations.

What does loading immediate loading mean? Traditional implants in most situations cannot be placed into the bone and then be used in the bite straight away. Bone needs to osseointegrate onto the implant. This process of the bone joining to the implant takes 3 months plus.

For patients with loose dentures waiting three plus months is an eternity. Most denture wearers (both partials and full),can in many situations have the mini implants placed and then attached to the denture the same day . This will create a very firm fit immediately.

If you think you are a candidate for immediate mini implants to fix your denture problems call our office and arrange a free consultaion . We would be happy to discuss your options

Care and Maintenance of Dental Implants

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Taking good care of your dental implants is as simple – and as important – as taking care of your natural teeth. Failing to take proper care of your dental implants can wreak a lot of havoc with your smile in the future, but quickly having a dental implant repaired if it happens to get damaged can save you a lot of time, expense and frustration.

Caring for Your Implant

The care and maintenance of your dental implant does not require any different treatment from that of your other teeth. You should:

  • Brush your teeth (and dental implants) gently but thoroughly twice a day
  • Floss around and between all your teeth at least once a day, or every time you brush
  • Examine your teeth and gums regularly for any changes or signs of damage or disease
  • Have your teeth professionally examined and cleaned at our office every 6-12 months

Simply following these steps is usually enough to protect your dental implant. However, if your dental implant is damaged, you should have it repaired immediately to prevent damage to the surrounding teeth or accelerated wear on the implant itself.

You can learn more about the advantages of dental implants today by contacting implant dentist Dr. Cload, serving patients throughout Calgary, Alberta, and the surrounding areas.

Partials vs. Dental Implants

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Did you know that Dr. Cload is not only a cosmetic dentist, but also an implant dentist? His training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies has equipped him to place dental implants for our patients who have lost one or more teeth. Not every dentist who offers dental implants is able to place the titanium implant that supports your porcelain crown, and many dentists will refer you to another specialist, sometimes to Dr. Cload, to have your implant surgery performed.

Other dentists who are unequipped to perform implant dentistry may simply offer you a partial denture without mentioning the possibility of a dental implant to replace your missing tooth. You can find out about the reasons we offer and usually recommend dental implants by reading more about Partials vs. Implants.

You may be a good candidate for dental implants if you:

  • Are missing one or more teeth
  • Have sufficient healthy gum and jaw bone tissue
  • Are in good overall health
  • Do not smoke

To learn more about partials and implants, and also how you can find out if you are a good candidate for dental implants, please contact LVI dentist Dr. Cload today, welcoming patients from Calgary and the surrounding areas of Alberta.
